2017 Photo Essays

In following our strategic plan's guidance to tell more stories and make our communications more visually appealing, CFPA launched a partnership with talented photojournalist, Rucha Chitnis.

Accompanied and assisted by
CFPA staff, Rucha traveled the
state listening and photographing Californians. Her work in 2017 was captured in a series of photo essays:

  • Breaking the Stigma of Hunger: Veterans on the Frontline documents hunger and homelessness among California's veterans.

  • Revitalizing Local Economy and Community Health: Why CalFresh Matters to Millions highlights the importance of CalFresh for California's workers, farmers, retailers, and the local economy.

  • "Hunger is an Issue of Justice": Lessons from refugee and immigrant youth in San Diego captures the vital voices and perspectives of immigrant and refugee youth in San Diego on improving the health and well being of their communities.
