Unanimous Vote in Support of Breakfast in the Classroom

Published on May 14, 2013 in Child Nutrition, School-Aged Children

5.14.2013  This afternoon the Los Angeles Unified School Board of Edcuation voted unanimously to continue to expand a program that now feeds breakfast to over 200,000 students a day.

Not one person spoke in opposition to this program that has brought so much hope and assistance to so many.  Parents spoke in support of the program helping them out in times of need.  Principals spoke in support of the program reducing tardiness and absenteeism and SEIU local 99 spoke out in support of saving almost 1,000 jobs that might have been lost had the expansion of program been stalled.  We commend the district’s administration and leadership in taking such a strong stand in ensuring more students have access to the most important meal of the day.
