CDE Releases Information on LCFF and School Meals

Published on Aug 31, 2014 in Child Nutrition, School-Aged Children

8.31.2014 Through the budget bill passed in June, Governor Brown signed into law a change that better aligns state education funding (via the Local Control Funding Formula) with access to free school meals.

Now, the California Department of Education has released new information about this policy change. Schools that utilize a school meal provision (Provision 2 and 3 and Community Eligibility Provision) can establish a four-year baseline of low-income students for the purposes of LCFF (with annual adjustments for incoming and outgoing students). This keeps schools from having to collect income data for each student each year.
