Schools Encouraged to Offer Plant-Based Vegetarian Options

Published on Nov 8, 2012 in Child Nutrition, School-Aged Children

11.8.2012 California Department of Education Nutrition Services Division released a management bulletin entitled “Vegetarian Options in School Meals”. The bulletin outlines the variety of benefits of eating plant-centered vegetarian meals, and CDE’s commitment to support school districts as they work to increase the amount of plant-centered vegetarian food on their menus. CDE urges schools to assess the different needs of their student bodies and to phase in additional plant-centered vegetarian meals for all students to enjoy.
