ECE Nutrition Investments: Advocacy Crunch Time!

Published on May 5, 2014 in Child Nutrition, Young Children

TakeAction-Icon5.5.2014 The Governor is expected to release the May revision of his proposed budget by mid-May. As soon as the May Revise is released, the Senate and Assembly quickly go to work finalizing their budget proposals. All proposed budget items are then discussed during Conference Committee hearings. By June 15 at midnight, the budget must be approved by the legislature. After the legislature approves the budget the Governor can either sign the budget for immediate enactment or veto individual items. By law, the new budget must be enacted on July 1.

Now is the time to remind your legislators of ECE Nutrition Investments. We want these critical investments included during upcoming budget negotiations. ECE nutrition should be top of mind!

Specifically, we are asking that the final budget include a state reimbursement for all ECE programs enrolled in the USDA’s Child and Adult Care Food Program of $0.2248 for each free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch served. For more information about this proposed budget item and who has signed on in formal support, read the coalition support letter. PDF

Take Action Today!
ECE Nutrition Investments need your support now more than ever! Once the May Revise is released, budget decisions happen at a rapid pace. Communicate your support of ECE Nutrition Investments as soon as possible. Tell your coworkers, friends, family, and everyone else you know to take action today.
