Updated USDA Afterschool Meals Handbook

Published on Jun 29, 2012 in Child Nutrition, School-Aged Children

6.28.2012 USDA updated their At-Risk Afterschool Meals Handbook and it contains important clarifications about the afterschool meal component of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). One significant point they make is that not all children need to participate in the educational or enrichment activities in order to receive an afterschool meal. This is an opportunity for afterschool program sites to be able serve meals to more students and neighborhood youth than the site provides programming to, therefore greatly increasing the impact of the program and enabling sites to promote the nutrition resources to the community.
