CalFresh Awareness Month in Los Angeles

by

5.6.2011 May is CalFresh Awareness Month in Los Angeles.  This partnership between the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services and dozens of community and local government partners seeks to increase applications for CalFresh by promoting the new brand, adding application locations, using the media to work with the public directly, and equipping community organizations with tools to help families apply.  For a full list of May activities, visit the LA Department of Public Social Services' CalFresh Awareness Month page. link

Highlights will include presentations to the Los Angeles City Council and the County Board of Supervisors; a press conference focused on dispelling myths about public charge; and DPSS CalFresh eligibility workers stationed at schools, grocery stores, and farmers' markets.

One of the best new opportunities for households is the online application portal. link

Significant media coverage has followed CalFresh Awareness Month, including stories on Univision 34, Telemundo 52, La Opinion, local NPR affiliate KPCC 89.3 and this story covering the overall trajectory of the campaign in the Los Angeles Times. link
